Del gesto al lenguaje

Cuando hablamos y oímos, nuestro cerebro tiene que trabajar bastante. Tiene que procesar las señales lingüísticas. Los gestos y los símbolos son también señales lingüísticas. Ya existían antes del lenguaje humano. Algunos símbolos se entienden en todas las culturas. Otros tienen que ser aprendidos. No pueden ser comprendidos por sí mismos. Gestos y símbolos son aprehendidos como el habla. ¡Y se procesan en la misma región cerebral! Así lo han constatado nuevos estudios. Los investigadores examinaron a diversos individuos. A estos sujetos se les hizo ver diferentes videoclips. Mientras estaban viendo los videoclips se midió su actividad cerebral. Los videoclips vistos por una parte de los sujetos de la prueba expresaban cosas distintas. Lo hacían mediante movimientos, símbolos y palabras. Otros grupos del experimento vieron otros videocilps. Se trataba de vídeos sin sentido. Sin palabras, gestos ni símbolos. No tenían significado. A través las mediciones cerebrales, los científicos descubrieron qué se procesaba y dónde. Luego compararon la actividad de los sujetos de la prueba entre sí. Todo lo que tenía significado se analizaba en la misma zona del cerebro. El resultado de este experimento es muy interesante. Nos muestra cómo aprendió el lenguaje nuestro cerebro. Al principio el ser humano se comunicaba mediante gestos. Más tarde desarrolló el lenguaje. El cerebro tuvo que aprender a procesar el lenguaje como si se tratase de gestos. Y evidentemente es sencillo actualizar la versión antigua…
