ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಈವಾಗ ೨೫ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸದಸ್ಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳಿವೆ ಬರುವ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ದೇಶಗಳು ಈ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ದೇಶದ ಸೇರಿಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಒಂದು ಹೊಸ ಭಾಷೆ ಕೂಡ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸದ್ಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ೨೦ ವಿವಿಧ ಬಾಷೆಗಳು ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇವೆ. ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಮಾನ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳಿವೆ. ಈ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆ ಒಂದು ಸೋಜಿಗ. ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಹ ಒಡ್ಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂದೇಹವಾದಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿ ಹಾಕುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವುಗಳು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾದ ಜೊತೆ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೊಂದರೆ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹಲವರ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯಂತೆ ಒಂದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಭಾಷೆ ಇರಬೇಕು. ಈ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶಗಳು ಒಂದನ್ನೊಂದು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಅಷ್ಟು ಸುಲಭ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಯಾವ ಬಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಏಕೈಕ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಲು ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇತರ ದೇಶಗಳು ಇದು ತಮಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕೂಲ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸ ಬಹುದು. ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದೂ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ತಟಸ್ಥವಾದ ಯುರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಭಾಷೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಎಸ್ಪೆರಾಂಟೊ ತರಹದ ಕೃತಕ ಭಾಷೆ ಸಹ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಭಾಷೆ ಒಂದು ದೇಶದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಯಾವ ದೇಶವೂ ತನ್ನ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡಲು ತಯರಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ಒಂದು ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಕಾರ್ಯಸೂಚಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಷಾನೀತಿ ಒಂದು ಮಹತ್ತರವಾದಅಂಶ. ಬಹುಭಾಷಾತನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಆಯುಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಸಹ ನೇಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅನುವಾದಕರನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ದುಭಾಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನು ಸುಗಮ ಮಾಡಲು ಸುಮಾರು ೩೫೦೦ ಜನ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಗದಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುವಾದಿಸಲು ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಮಯ ಮತ್ತು ಹಣ ಖರ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಕಾಗದಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಹಲವು ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುವಾದ ಆಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಇರುವುದು ಯುರೋಪ್ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸವಾಲು. ಯುರೋಪ್ ತನ್ನ ವಿವಿಧ ವ್ಯ ಕ್ತಿತ್ವಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಒಂದಾಗಬೇಕು!
