Ndryshimi i gjuhës = Ndryshimi i personalitetit

Gjuha jonë na përket. Ajo është pjesë e rëndësishme e personalitetit tonë. Shumë njerëz flasin disa gjuhë. A do të thotë se kanë personalitete të shumta? Studiuesit besojnë se: po! Kur ndryshojmë gjuhën, ne gjithashtu ndryshojmë personalitetin tonë. Kjo do të thotë se sillemi ndryshe. Në këtë përfundim kanë arritur shkencëtarët amerikanë. Ata studiuan sjelljen e grave bilinguale. Këto gra ishin rritur me anglisht dhe spanjisht. Ato njihnin mirë të dyja gjuhët dhe kulturat. Sidoqoftë, sjellja e tyre varej nga gjuha. Kur flisnin spanjisht, gratë ishin konfidente. Ato gjithashtu ndjeheshin të qeta kur rreth tyre flitej spanjisht. Kur gratë flisnin anglisht, sjellja e tyre ndryshonte. Ato kishin më pak vetëbesim dhe shpesh ishin të pasigurta. Studiuesit gjithashtu vunë re që gratë dukeshin më të vetmuara. Gjuha që flasim ndikon në sjelljen tonë. Studiuesit ende nuk e dinë pse. Ndoshta ne udhëhiqemi nga normat kulturore. Kur flasim, ne mendojmë për kulturën nga e cila vjen gjuha. Kjo ndodh automatikisht. Prandaj, ne përpiqemi t'i përshtatemi kulturës. Ne sillemi në një mënyrë të zakonshme për atë kulturë. Gjatë eksperimentit, folësit e gjuhës kineze ishin shumë të rezervuar. Kur flisnin anglisht bëheshin më të hapur. Ndoshta ne ndryshojmë sjelljen tonë në mënyrë që të integrohemi më mirë. Ne duam të jemi si ata, me të cilët bisedojmë…
